President Obama reached out to crucial young voters here and in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Tuesday with a promise to keep college affordable, in the first two of three campus appearances in battleground states this week spotlighting this key voting group. Speaking to capacity crowds at the University of North Carolina's flagship campus and later in the day at the University of Colorado, Obama made his case that congressional leaders must take action before July to prevent interest rates on federal student loans from doubling. A dozen Secret Service agents sent to Colombia to provide security for President Barack Obama at an international summit have been relieved of duty because of allegations of misconduct. A caller who said he had knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press the misconduct involved prostitutes in Cartagena, Colombia , the site of the Summit of the Americas. A Secret Service spokesman did not dispute that. A U.S. official, who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter and requested anonymity, put the number of agents at 12. The agency was not releasing the number of personnel involved. The Washington Post reported that Jon Adler, president of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association , said the accusations related to at least one agent having involvement with prostitutes in Cartagena. The White House on Monday rejected Israeli President Shimon Peres's personal appeal to commute convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard's life sentence. "Our position hasn't changed," National Security Council spokesman Tommy Vietor said in an email to Yahoo. Asked whether the White House had received Peres's written plea to President Barack Obama for clemency, Vietor said he was not sure "but the position is the same." Obama had rejected a January 2011 request from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to free Pollard, a former U.S. Navy intelligence analyst convicted in 1985 of passing classified information to  Israel. Netanyahu's appeal was the first such plea in public, and it drew support from most of Israel's parliament, the Knesset. That makes 93-year-old Rachel Veitch a notable exception. Veitch is retiring her 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente after more than 576,000 miles on the road.   "I am legally blind, so I can no longer drive my lovely Chariot," Veitch told. "They don't have to take it away, I would not dream of driving that car again." The car itself is fine, but Veitch has macular degeneration in both her eyes, making her legally blind.
